That statement carries enough precision to change a plan. It also carries enough specificity to prove wrong — which makes it trustworthy in exactly the way that directional commentary never becomes.
The essential strategist applies the same rigor here that applies everywhere else in the planning process. Revenue projections carry ranges. Market sizing carries assumptions. Competitive assessments cite sources. AI's effect on positioning and demand deserves the same discipline — confidence intervals, stated assumptions, outputs specific enough that next quarter's data either confirms or revises them.
5. Who Authored the AI Narrative You Rely On?
When the channel owner authors the measurement of the channel, the result reflects the channel's interests. This principle holds for search. It holds for social. It holds for programmatic. And it holds — with equal force — for AI.
Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta each have economic incentives to demonstrate that their AI platforms drive value. Their measurement methodologies represent one input. Treated as the definitive account, they produce a confident-sounding narrative that serves the vendor's growth thesis as much as the strategist's planning needs.
